* To allow the modem to be re_configured if necessary
* To log on to any mailbox
* The communication is displayed in the terminal window
To open this window click on the button "Terminal" in the main dialog of CoMa.

Everything you write in this window will be sent to the modem at once. If you want to login to the mailbox of SOFTBÄR Germany you have to type: 00493062709459 If you press the RETURN-button your modem will dial the number and connect to our mailbox.
The better way to connect is to use the numberlist. Add the number of the desired mailbox into the numberlist, activate it and choose "Dial only" from the pull-down-menu or use the keys ctrl + D. CoMa will then select the marked number and start dialling automatically.
After the connection is astablished CoMa opens the terminal-window and you are asked for your identification.
You see, connecting to a mailbox can be very easy! And by using the macros it becomes quite simple!

Use GAST as password and typ in your name. Then you get displayed the contents of the mailbox and the overview of the mailbox commands.
If you went into our mailbox to get the newest version of CoMa you have to change the directory into the folder "Mac". Type "cd mac" and you see the contents of this folder on the screen. In our example you find 3 other folders and 3 files. The files with *Update* include only the new programm. The file CoMa_Mac_4.0.1.sit.bin includes the hole archive. In our pictured example we downloaded the hole archive. We used an abbreviation by typing the shortcut * in the name of the file. If you use the star as wildcard, the filename ahead of it will be ignored.

If the transmission starts via Z-modem-protocoll a dialogue box shows all relevant data about it.

If you leave the mailbox use the command "exit". The mailbox will cut the connection and you see the mention "NO CARRIER", this means that the modem has gone "on hook".
Uploads
The first part of this chapter showed you how to get files from a mailbox, but you may want to sent the other way too.
If a resource-fork exists, you are asked in a dialoque box if you want to download only the data-fork or the complete file as MacBinary!
There are two possibilities for uploading data to the mailbox in the menue-bar of the terminal-window.
* Z-Modem Upload
* ASCII Upload
Z-Modem Upload
After you click on this command the file select box apears and you can choose the file to be sent.
The transmission protokoll will be Z-modem.
You can also drag a file from the desktop into the terminal window and drop it there. CoMa uses drag & drop here.
ASCII Upload
If you want to send a ASCII-textfile to the terminal-window of the mailbox you have to take this entry.
You can write the text offline and after the connection is established you can sent the hole text at once.
  The macros
To make it easier for you to connect a mailbox CoMa has 8 free defineable macros. You can use them to give in your password etc..
The dialogue to give in the macros is under Preferences "Macros".

The CRLF-command
If you log in a mailbox, every entry must be ended with the return-button. The macros in CoMa use the "vertical Line" (|) to do this.
The break-command
To give the mailbox enough time to read the entry and work with it, you can add a pause of 0,5 seconds to the macro. We use therfore the "~"-sign. If necessary, you can put several breaks in a line to get a longer pause.
Hang Up
To disconnect immediately you can use the entry "Hang Up" in the pull-down-menue (‚åò+H).
In the preferences dialoque "Mailbox" you can ste the inactivity timer" to a desired time. If the caller sends no input for this time the connection will be canceled.
